An Unacknowledged Existence

A hole in the fence
Of unwanted ends
Overlooking empty streets
Trying to find who he used to be
Facing blank stares and closed blinds
Letters to a stranger
Written in fading closet light
Remember me by my wasted lies

Captured his attention
Before there were limits
He shot arrows from the stage
We waited for the day
We’d be locked in place

I can’t forget the way
I don’t remember what it said
I might even love her
Is still written in my head
I keep a bookmark of our cut out times
It hurts to hear he hasn’t died

I flipped a coin
When he struck a match
Now there’s no way back

Water kicked off a bridge
He pushed me down a cliff
Tunnel vision in a white sky
The paper light bulbs didn’t work in time
Now only loose ends remain
Because he moved away

I didn’t want a love story
But I miss the way it used to be
I still have the rose you picked
Even though you told me to burn it
You’re the direction that the sun sets
Maybe that’s why I only have regrets
