Slow Love

We just met and everything is touch and go
She wants to move in overdrive, but I asked that we move it slow
We're not kids anymore, we both carry battle scars
We've both lived to fast, while loving to hard

The games that she's played, I was on the opposing team
While she was running on empty, I was picking up steam
At this point in life, I simply need things to change
There's to much love left to be had, but I need it without the pain

I'm ready to venture into a new realm of life
But we can't do that, if we can't go a week without strife
you say that you love me and I believe that you do
But where I would bet my future on me and you, I wont on a screw

For whatever reason we can't seem to make it past first base
We both love to hard, so jealousy may be the case
Yes there are things that we both need that aren't freely given
We need more of each others time just to know that we are truly forgiven

We need to ensure that we are not criticizing each other's past
The first thing that we see in the morning and at night we want to be the last
For those that you tricked with the reward of just a stick
And if you didn't get what you wanted, they went among those that were restricted

To those that I promised the pleasures of tongue and dick
After I got what I wanted, they were considered just another trick
More than a few hearts and lives we have both destroyed
No we both fear that we are the ones being toyed

Unfortunately we have to do what our victims sadly all did
We have to dig up and expose emotions that we had long ago hid
We have to engage in conversation that is wrapped in trust
In order to determine if what we have is love or is it again just lust
