Ashes to Dust

Your father gave you no grave
Just as he gave you no life
He took my books of poetry
and like you turned them to dust
But still you have a resting place
Where love and warmth give comfort
For you are forever buried deep within my heart
and if I can carry you to Heaven
When my time comes to rise
I will pray to the Lord
I will get right up in his face
I will let him know if he won't let you in
He might as well send me straight to Hell
Where I can shield your light from eternal darkness
Where I can keep the fire from your skin
Where I can hold your soul safely within

The end of your life should have been
the end of your suffering
I pray you are in the arms of your mother
and that someday I will see you again
I pray there is forgiveness for your sin
and the sin that did you in
Was it an accident or a deliberate end
Does it really matter when the alternative is pain?
