Chores On Iggy

When it was a hot muggy day and I was, darn tootin',
doin' the Snoopy Happy, tweetin' at songbirds,
daydreamin' and listenin' to crawdads sing
puttin' my chores on iggy

as mama snapped green beans in the noonday sun
grandpappy sang of little beau Jesus,
wettin' his whistle with corn liquor
while the old tick hound scratched its hide

those were the days of sayin' prayers,
talkin' to friends across the fence
and chasin' rainbows from upstairs,
watchin' clouds dance

now the crawdads are gone
and the hours are long,
I'm dustin' off canned green beans,
mama and grandpappy are in heaven

puttin' my chores on iggy,
but my memories are never far
in this place, I call home,
doin' the Snoopy Happy, tweetin' at songbirds
