Got me remembering all the old hot buttons from my Sales Manager days...your poems utilize Maslow's Theory of Hierarchy and other recognizable means of directing the pitch/  interaction process.  (I think you've hit on something there!)  :-)  

I've been in sales in one form or another my whole life.
My sales manager who also is an owner is only concerned with the sale.  That's not my philosophy.  I'm more 360.  For me it's prospecting, qualifying, competing, closing, making the company buy the right products ( very difficult) retention, taking less margin when my competition gets tired of losing sales to me and me doing the same thing to them.  Most of all it's the relationships of course.  In the old days I just went in and told the customer, I'll save you money and it worked in Manhattan because I took a territory nobody wanted  and did damn well.  Recession 2008/9 most of my Manhattan customers moved to the outer boroughs.  I did well following them but all my margins dropped 5 to 10 points.  I like outside sales.  I've never owned a car and have never driven to a customer on my own.

Ah...my friend!  You are the type of candidate people in my former industry always sought.  NOT a "Salesman", someone driven to be a trusted "Consultant"!  Not selling for the sake of selling...but finding solutions! When I started in Sales, I was perfectly willing to forego a single sale, if the client did not benefit...I knew that if I was generous with my knowledge & capable of empathy for a client's long term needs, the client would gain and I'd feel personally accomplished; gaining business in the long term, as well.  (The old "Win/Win/Win").  That's the way all three of the airlines I worked for readily approved of.  I loved face-to-face contact...that went away when I accepted management positions.  I know that times are tough now, but your profession is key! Nothing happen till someone sells something.  :-)  Go get 'em!  -Ted

It's ironic because I was an Operations Manager when I worked in Broadcasting for many years at the networks.  I despised management, like changing diapers but I was good at it.  When I took this outside sales gig I swore I'd never work in an office again and haven't.... I'm Grey collar now .. So many ways to sell, I always say I'm a finesse pitcher with an occasional fastball and a nasty slider.
Baseball really is a great sport to compare life to !!

You got that right. I have one female friend in Jagger’s age bracket that jokes about being married to Jagger. In fact were are going to a Bonnie Raitt concert this week. I have other friends who don’t mind telling you they would take the least attractive Beatle or any Rolling Stone any day.
