Where there's no Oatmeal for Breakfast

I want to leave
To go far away.
I want to be where I matter
And the people care what I think.
Where I don’t have to eat oatmeal
Or eggs or meat if I don’t want to.
Where I say no and the answer is no.
I want to be with you, my love.
With the family that we will have.
I don’t want to ever come back.
I will stay with you
Where there is no
Disrespect.
Where I know I matter
And I know I am loved.
And when there are children
I want to be better than my parents.
I won’t force them to eat oatmeal
Or eggs or meat if they don’t want to.
They won’t be forced to wear what I tell them
Or act like all’s well
When they want to cry.
When they are older I won’t restrict them.
I won’t become my parents,
Telling them that they can’t love someone
Based on age or time.
I won’t be my parents.
I won’t force my ways
My beliefs
My morals
On my babies.
I will not be the monster they are.
