The Prettiest Masks

Fake friends wear the prettiest masks

yours appeared into my life like a whirlwind
painting it wild with wicked colors,
sparks of gray, gold and red.

Fake friends wear the prettiest masks

yours was made of laughter, hope and support
"the doublemint twins" they called us,
remember that old commercial?
double the fun, but alas — double the tears.

Fake friends wear the prettiest masks

as, as, as
yours a-g-o-n-i-z-i-n-g-l-y fell away
sparks of gray, gold and red
BURST into my heart,
ripped it out completely in two and proved

fake friends wear the prettiest masks

Author's Note
I needed to remind myself why we have to sometimes cut unstable people off for our mental health.
It is not selfish to put your own needs first, especially if others are hurting you and not giving you the support you deserve and family sometimes also needs to be put aside too.
