how many of we the people

who spout vitriol and hate about
our nation’s elected leadership

have held public office

had personal and
professional lives microscopically

scrutinized
analyzed
criticized

how many of we the people

have read bills in their entirety
listened to all sides of an argument

have debated on difficult issues
or voted on laws that benefit some but hurt others

how many of we the people

have missed dinner to attend a rally
or collect signatures on a petition

how many have volunteered
to help run a campaign

how many of we the people

complain without questioning
sources of information

how many of we the people

accept without questioning
low-hanging fruit spoon fed by media

(judging without understanding)

how many of we the people
moan and groan

without participating
in the process?
