Ever After

“Ever After”

If I find my Ever After
Will there be flowers on my bedside?
And will I say that I love you that I love you
One last time, while I feel just a little afraid
That I could not cry while you were facing me?

Forgive me!
I have forgotten myself in the dewdrops—
The dews of midnight—
And like the seasons, my heart has changed.
There remains the palest, autumn sky;
A perpetual chill I cannot survive,
For lone is the way into the quiet Earth;
The frost has opened beneath the starless night.

Behold!
The Masks, dawned by the shade of what awaits…
Coldness pervades the ring of candles
Where I dawn the Face of Eternity.
My heart is filled with your breath:
A kind of tranquility touches the flame.
But there is nothing…only the pain
Where my heartbeat stirs in the wind
Of the prison that sighs into my hollowness.
I wear this Face on the surface to tell a lie,
That my heart can be shared with ecstasy,
But my heart you do not see is cold
With the recollection of your voice.

If I find my Ever After,
Can you imagine something complete?
Would you be there to wish me well
On the journey to the secret dark?
Would you come to say goodbye
And leave flowers by my side?
Would I say that I love you that I love you
And keep your spirit with me
Though I weep without you?
Though I hide the tears that you made?
