An 8 and 6 I think is best
For getting folks to read
Poetics that will have addressed
The poet's brand of greed.
Their stock in trade are syllables,
In timely manner spent,
And when the critics pull their hair
We tell them to get bent,
For critics quickly lose their clout
When they lose their cool
Or question what you have learned
At some other school
Where only sonnets may be writ,
Almost religiously,
And literary hairs are split
All too obnoxiously.
But sonnets have a trait I like
For which I will contend
Since when the ballad carries on
The sonnet finds an end!
