APOLOGY TO MY VERY DEAR FRIEND, LOZZAMUS
APOLOGY TO MY VERY DEAR FRIEND, LOZZAMUS
You are so great of mind and heart;
you write about what none can do.
You've got so dear to all of us.
What makes you gain this love and go?
Your subjects no one can depict.
They are so daring and so grand.
The poets all wait for your words.
You leave them after they've got fond.
You are so gentle and so kind.
You have not said a word of blame.
You've helped who've looked for your great aid.
You are the torch of tender flame.
I kindly ask you to return
and keep the group with that old smile.
If l've said something you don't like,
don't punish me in such a style.

"You've got so dear to all of us."
All of us? Really? What evidence do you have that Lozzamus was dear to anyone except you -- and this because he gave you praise, not because of how he wrote?
"The poets all wait for your words"
They do? How do you know this?
"You've helped [those] who've looked for your great aid."
Really? What substantial aid has he actually given anyone?
"If l've said something you don't like,
don't punish me in such a style."
Leaving aside the question of whether you think too much of yourself if you view Lozzamus' leaving the forum as a "punishment" caused by, and directed at, you, one does not punish in a style. In a particular manner, yes. But not in a style. But ah, yes. You got a rhyme.
And how many times can you use "so"
e.g.,
so great
so dear
so daring
so grand.
so gentle
so kind.
and think that without saying how or why L is "so X" you've conveyed anything substantial, let alone written well?
Sorry, but this is cloying, poorly written junk.

BTW, when I just now searched "poets", DUP said that Lozzamus is still here

Maybe he IS "punishing" you. Now why would that be?

L is still here, and he's a friend of mine. I'm pleased that an apology of sorts has been issued, but it's the bare minimum that J can do, really. The comment was deeply inappropriate, hurtful and in very bad taste.

Very dear Baldwin,
"You've helped THOSE who've looked for your great aid."
You have put THOSE, Baldwin. Are you sure of what you are doing? Please think about it fully before answering me. It's not appropriate for a person like you to say so.

Grammarly notes that for your line to be grammatically correct, "those" is necessary. And I'll trust Grammarly over you -- a non-native English speaker who holds no degree in English composition -- any time.

And thanks for the slur (and for concentrating on what amounts to a gnat given the more substantial remarks I made about how maudlin and poorly written your piece is). It gives me yet another reason why I would not want to be your friend.

Very dear Baldwin.
Can you tell me with THOSE what kind of subordinate clause it is, and without IT what it becomes? Think deeply, Baldwin.

Re: Re. APOLOGY TO MY VERY DEAR FRIEND, LOZZAMUS
"Helped" needs a direct object. "Those who've ..." supplies it. I'm not sure how an object clause is a subordinate one. In any case, it's your claim that "those" is unnecessary. So it's up to you to provide evidence that it is and that Grammarly is wrong in what it asserts. But my money is on the fact that you'll respond with an ad hominem instead of a quote from a recognized authoritative English grammar that shows you are correct to challenge what Grammarly notes your sentence needs to be grammatically correct.

Very dear Ellie,
I didn't mean anything to hurt the feelings of Lozzamus. I know he is very sensitive. He is very dear to me, and he is my dear friend. I once again apologize to him. I hope he accepts my apology.

Well, send him a private message if you're able to. If that isn't possible, you'll just have to wait and see if or when he wants to make contact.

Dear Ellie,
I kindly ask you to tell him that l wait for his writings impatiently because he is a friend, and his writings are very interesting. My mistake was not so big. From now on, l'll be very careful when i comment on his writings.

I'll do no such thing. You are both grown men, and you need to accept whatever decision he has made. I don't have the time or inclination to be your messenger-girl. I have two kids and two jobs.

Besides my parenthetical note on your" You've helped who've looked for your great aid.", I also made these remarks about the validity of your exaggerated claims:
"You've got so dear to all of us."
All of us? Really? What evidence do you have that Lozzamus was dear to anyone except you -- and this because he gave you praise, not because of how he wrote?
"The poets all wait for your words"
They do? How do you know this? And who are "the" poets"?
"You've helped who've looked for your great aid."
Really? What substantial aid has he actually given anyone?
"If I've said something you don't like,
don't punish me in such a style."

and think that without saying how or why L is "so X" you've conveyed anything substantial, let alone written well?
Perhaps you are ready now, to speak directly to them. Or will you continue to pretend that my parenthetical remark about the use of "those" was the only thing that appeared in my message to you?
My money is on the latter. Am I wrong to say so?
