Real Courage

you risked your life

big deal
what else
have you risked?

disapproval?
economic security?
a belief?

there’s nothing particularly
courageous
about risking one's life

so you lose it

you go to hero's heaven
land of milk and honey
until the end of time

reward without suffering
no earthly consequences
that's not courage

real courage

is risking
something
that might force you to rethink

your thoughts
to suffer change
to stretch consciousness

real courage

is risking
one’s
clichés
