Spider Goddess of the Cosmic Web
In domains of twilight, where I may espy
Some chance of seeing the clouds parting,
The fangs of the crescent moon awakening
Within me the stirrings of the night's fury.
Some think it dark that I find such peace
In places where ruins meet the woodland,
And dark forests by all people abandoned
Where the scent of pine helps do me ease.
I am one of the children of the night now
There is no returning whence I have come,
No repenting of all the things I have done
Since my spirit became as black as a crow.
In my darkness I am now more complete
For there is in the night a solace day lacks,
A tight devotion to which can never slack
The will that is mine, sensuous and sweet.
Seductive is the night, serenading songs
That are not for living ears, only my own,
Which are sensitive enough to thus roam
Wherever the music lingers lovely, long.
Some fear me, for I await in the shadow
I am one with the dark between the stars,
At peace with my pain and with my scars
Forsaken by the light of a fairer meadow.
In isles of mist, in domains of dire dread
Between worlds, my feet have traversed,
Places where my lips spoke unholy verse
And the company I kept was of the dead.
This is who I am, and all I have become
Happy to be apart from the heavenly host,
Even if I must fade and be as unto a ghost
I will be content beneath a far blacker sun.
A witch some call me, a demonic terror
Like a spider, with a web that is cosmic,
I weave my sorcery, never being lethargic
And those who fear me are not in error!
We existed before mankind was birthed
My eldritch kindred and I, and our magic,
Worked with science not bound by logic
Filling us with no small delightful mirth.
When the hour is right, then once again
We shall rule all creation, bereft of pain.
Some chance of seeing the clouds parting,
The fangs of the crescent moon awakening
Within me the stirrings of the night's fury.
