Compared To What
There has always been a gap
between the wages of our first educators
and the masters of professional sports
priorities tell us a lot
Historically the early learning teachers
were predominantly female
and a justification falsely made
these employees didn’t need much
As the high school and college experience
gained respectability and allure
the president, chancellor, dean
gained stature
Taken to another level as
administrators at higher institutions
controlled White Houses
became captains of industry
But the elementary teacher
the after school educators
the daycare workers remained
behind with compensation
The wealth of the athletes
pushed compensation to a high
and was accompanied
by a dramatic increase in influence
So much can said about values
in what educators earn for
shaping and molding young minds
while economically so far behind
The pro athlete working capitalism
for all it is worth and pointing
to a limited time in prime form
and owners with open pocket books
While public educators subjected to
the limitations of taxes and
average daily attendance
longer tenures in the profession

but is it inconceivable that
it can be reduced?
Wonder with funding both a function
of state and local policy
will a public push drive
us to honoring the agents of knowledge?

And the news outlets have gone full bread and circus. For me the last straw was when PBS’ news shows were sponsored by a weapon’s maker, a big Agra company, and the military.

I still think the PBS News Hour is a comprehensive news show.
I appreciate the longer pieces and the attempt to stay unbiased.
The problem is quality news is expensive to produce and PBS can't survive on donations a alone. I have issues with some of their practices but overall I think they do a good job. For the record, I worked in Broadcasting at CBS and ABC for 25 years. Then went rogue and became a salesman selling lumber.
Money taints everything. Educators on lower levels in less wealthy communities are not compensated correctly. It's a wonder people still choose it as a profession but where would youth be without them ?

Yes. I spent 4 years subbing, 5 years teaching and coaching basketball in California. I was naive in thinking with a move to Oregon, Special Ed would be more pleasant in a smaller state. I was wrong.
