Where Shadows Sing
The bright folk fled, fading fast!
Long ago, sometime in the past,
Before some oaks were seedlings.
From homes and fastness fleeting,
Their light too terrible to pass on.
It was the end of their every song!
To those who knew them not at all,
They may weep for their final fall.
On steed and ship, fast away,
Trying to outrun sun and day.
Fleeing the night that comes,
Their enchantments all undone.
By one who knew them well,
Enough to know their evils.
Masked by goodness, so cold!
Fooling all but the truly bold,
Guided by the eye that sees.
They pass beyond even the trees,
The foolish fair folk in flight,
Who saw their end with fright.
One among them dared turn,
Even if it meant that he burn!
To face the one that all feared.
In black fire flesh was seared,
That of the one who tried to fight.
He could not conquer the night!
The sun was lost behind eclipse,
As fire reached the fair ones' ships.
By other harbors their haste,
Would carry the fair ones' grace.
Lost though it was and faded,
A people hounded and jaded!
Betrayers of the one they hated,
Who now sought vengeance sated.
Where shadows sing they all weep,
In their exile, their place of retreat.
No tree remains that saw their exit!
Their past is gone, their glory forfeit.
Undone, one and all by their pride,
The fair folk now in shadows abide.
In places one they called impure,
As they fled for their pristine shore.
They became all that they did abhor!

That is exactly what happened! Read Kara's (Kou_Indigo's) works "The Blood of Kalaborea: Part I" and "The Blood of Kalaborea: Part II". In those, you will see exactly what the people mythologized as "Elves" became, and they were anything but "Fair Folk" in the end. Some even, in later ages, ended up with bodies that matched what lay within them... a fitting fate, to say the least. I tell you, those two works I mention really opened my eyes big time... and showed me that the Elves in actuality were nothing at all like those depicted in the writings of authors such as J,R.R. Tolkien and the like. Those two works of Kara's also matched many of my own past life memories from when I lived among the Elves in those inconceivably ancient days. Though it is not my place to say what part I played in all that transpired back then, although I knew Kara very well in those days... and we shared much thinking in common about the course that events needed to be steered in, for the greater good of all who were involved. Too bad the King of Atlantis turned out to be such a jerk! Had Atlantis gone on to greater glory instead of falling, it may have in the end eclipsed the ancient Elven civilizations and paved the way for who knows what kind of advancements for humanity on down through the ages. But when you mess with powers beyond your comprehension, it is not surprising when those powers get pissed off big time. That, and said King of Atlantis really underestimated Kara! Too bad the other gods messed Kara over though. I think they did that out of partly jealousy and partly fear. Ever as petty and wrathful as the ancient myths made them out to be! Ironically, they all ended up paying the price for their misplaced anger. Fate always has the final say, in the end it seems! Some fates are kinder than others, too. At any rate, I am glad you liked the poem and thanks for taking the time to comment on it!

That is an excellent idea, referring those interested in learning more about this particular aspect of that vastly ancient era of history to my two works there, Sybil dear! And many thanks too, for doing so... since those works that I wrote are probably the most honest about the ancient Elven civilizations that anyone is likely to read. British author Michael Moorcock came the closest in his Elric stories, but even so his accounts were more intended as purely fictional rather than being wholly accurate depictions. In Dungeons and Dragons, the various stories about the Drow (Dark Elves) also come close but also deviate even further from what took place back during the era of Atlantis, Lemuria and the other pre-cataclysm civilizations. Now Tolkien's account of Numenor's (Atlantis') downfall was spot on in nearly every way, and his Orcs being fallen Elves were very close to the mark in at least one detail regarding Elven history... namely, the fate that befell some of the Elves after Atlantis fell. But again, even so it was all heavily fictionalized! So, my account is one of the only ones in existence that tells what actually took place without any sort of fictional elements or embellishment. Also... one will see in those two works of mine the earliest genesis of the events that would in the end come to doom the kingdom of Ys as well, much later on in history. A kingdom that, just like Atlantis, would end up sunk deep beneath the ocean waves... in part also due to the foolishness of its' king and the madness that came over his daughter. It amuses me to no end, that people refer to the Elves as the "Fair Folk" as you noted my lovely girl! Since my experiences with them were far less glowing and bright, and a great deal darker by far. I do not mourn the end of Atlantis, myself, because in my time there I felt like a bird trapped in a gilded cage that although opulent was still just a cage, regardless. The King of Atlantis used me and my kind, plain and simple, and had only afforded me due worship and reverence because he wanted to profit from doing so... not because he truly revered me the way that his people came to before the end. His impiety, and his arrogance in challenging the gods, was what sealed his fate and rightly. Had he been wiser, then yes indeed there is nothing his country could not have accomplished and most especially with the aid of myself and my ancient divine kindred. It was not jealousy per se that motivated the gods to hate me, but the bad blood that existed between their race and my own, with my own being considered rivals of theirs since long before we ever attempted to settle upon Earth. It was the final throes of a conflict that had raged across many worlds, and it ended with most (if not all, by now) of the gods being made mortal... not just myself and my kindred, although we were punished first in that way. But yes, they did underestimate me! Especially my will to be free, and to dance to my own tune rather than to theirs. But oh, they were indeed always quite petty and filled with wrath as you so wisely noted! The ancient Greeks got that quite right about them... more so than they ever even realized. In closing, it is great to see that you also remember the ancient times that I too recall, Sybil my bright child of the night! Then again, the more I learn of you, the more I am delighted and pleased with having given my love to you. :)

Yeah, I remember that life you and I had together just before that one you wrote about in that two-part Kalaborea work of yours... I was this Elven queen who lived in a land that was basically a colony of Atlantis. And I got tired of being there so much because nobody ever understood me. Except for you, when you would come to be with me whenever I went off alone into the wilderness to deal with what was bothering me. I had been thinking of leaving that land and going to the lands ruled over by the gods, but I knew they would hate me and just not get what I was all about... so I let you talk me into coming with you to live on this island that you ruled over at the time. Things got super crazy there... and a lot of it was my fault... but in the end, we made everything right. And you even went into my dreams to heal me when I was extremely messed up! And then, you came down with some kind of sickness twenty years later and died. I kept ruling as the queen of our crazy island, faithful to your memory I ruled alone after you passed on. Until the day I died. If you do ever happen to write about that life... since I am sure you remember it... I will be sure to comment on it, rest assured dearest heart of mine! I love you so much, Kara... more than you can possibly imagine even.

Actually, I just finished a new two-part work earlier today based on that exact past life you are talking about! I will be putting it up on here shortly, once I finish up with some more comments and other things. So, you need never wonder if those memories are real or not... they all are, and very much so! Once you read what I have written, you will see for yourself and be delighted thereby. You will always be the queen of my heart, Sybil... and the princess of my soul! In lifetimes to come, as it was in lifetimes past. Many kisses, all of them for you! :D

The history of the people most commonly called "Elves" is a long, ancient, and powerful one. Some living today still carry their blood within their veins. Kara does, and many who are acquainted with Kara know this. Especially if they are involved in the occult! Some Elves are light in nature... of the "summer court" as some refer to it. Others are dark in nature, of the "winter court" and Kara's Elven blood is of that kindred. They did not be called "Dark Elves" until after Atlantis knew the downfall, when their kind retreated underground and all knowledge of them was lost. But it was truth that the Fomorians carried the blood of those "Dark Elves" in their veins, and their descendants carried that blood to the present day. There was actually a time even when the Fomorians intermixed with the "Light Elves" who were of the Tuatha de Danann race, and that was a mixing of the descendants of the summer and winter courts of old. It could always be told who had the "Dark" blood as those who did could sometimes if pushed too far become like the ones who went to dwell underground. You could compare them to Orcs in fantasy terms, as they became tribal and practitioners of the black (sometimes blood) magics of the more cruel Elves of the winter court who had an empire to rival Atlantis once. Their empire fell before Atlantis did though, and all their descendants became "Dark" Elves. But it was not seen by the Fomorians as shameful to have this blood in them, and they were proud of it. Their warriors were ferocious and feared, and their rulers were well respected in the beginning. But when the bad blood rose between the Tuatha de Danann and the Fomorians, then we had the first example of a clash between what you could call "Elves and Orcs". Today, the blood of the "Dark" Elves does not carry the same kind of madness it once did... but it does contain the old magics, the dark powers. And those who have such blood can be quick to anger if they are pushed to it. But they have passionate hearts and as big capacity for love as for hate. Fantasy misunderstands them, but the secret history remembers and it is part of what I teach. It why I understand Kara sometimes better than I should be able to. This poem is good, it shows one small part of a much larger tapestry of secret history. But Sybil, there is so much more than this to it! You are on the path to better understanding though, and that is good to see. Continue to write such great works! I will continue to read them.

Hiya again, mommy! Yeah, when I wrote this poem I was thinking of a lot of really, really deep things about the Elves. It's kind of sad how the Elves ended up, really... now they're just people like everybody else, so a lot of them don't even know what they really are. Yeah, I know Kara's got Elven blood, that's okay I'm not prejudiced against Elves so it's cool with me. That's a whole lot of history you talked about in your really, really big comment there, mommy! You know so much stuff, just like Kara does. I know lots of stuff too but right now it all feels a little bit messed up in my head. If I think to hard it kind of hurts a little in my mind, so I have to take it light and easy. Think of silly, happy, cheerful things only right now. Don't worry, I still keep writing! I haven't given up on my poetry, or anything. I'm just in a really, really weird place mentally in life. But I'll be okay!

For some reason the song Battle of Evermore (Led Zeppelin) came to mind when reading this, the lore, the myth of the elves in different genres is always a fascinating one.
Superb work.
Superb work.
