Rarely have I felt beautiful
Inside or out
Been thinking: maybe
I’m too critical.
So here’s beauty I see
In those close to me:

She’s beautiful
Her silver hair neatly rolled
Her work-worn arthritic hands
Blue veins showing through
Speckled age-spotted wrinkled skin
Beautiful hands!
She cares, wants to be kind and loving
She’s a doer
She’s a survivor
She’s a fighter
Frail and considerate
With hidden strength and determination
She’s beautiful

He’s beautiful
Neat brown hair
Brown expressive eyes
Sun-browned skin
Thin and agile, quick
Caring, thoughtful, energetic
With a strong sense of right & wrong
A care for justice
Playful creative mind
With a side of serious understanding
He’s beautiful

Beautiful child
Tousled curly mop of hair
Brown laughing eyes
that betray a mischievous creativity
Bouncy, cuddly, lean brown body
So huggable and lovable
So much a mommy’s boy
He’s beautiful

Handsome character…
Serious, loyal, committed
Sensitive, undying love
Caretaker, problem-solver
Never would abandon those he loves
He’s beautiful

If I can learn to focus on their beauty
Perhaps I’ll find my own along the way
