Remorse
Sometimes I wonder
If, years back,
When you opened up your broken trust
Told me the heartache you were facing
And I so callously shut you down
Selfishly claiming I was in a happy place
that I feared you’d ruin,
Did I shatter with that conversation
My last hope of your friendship, love and trust?
I’d redo it all, if I could!
I’d say, “Do whatever your hurting heart needs
To help it heal.
Turn the light on & reveal
Those ghosts that haunt you.
What will be, will be…
Just know, I’m always here for you!
Is there ANYTHING that I can do?”
That’s what you’d hear from me
If I could go back in time
and undo the hurt I caused.
But we don’t talk anymore,
So I can’t even say, “I am very deeply sorry,
Filled to exploding with regret
And remorse.”
Will I ever have another chance
To show you I can be a truly caring friend?
If, years back,
When you opened up your broken trust
Told me the heartache you were facing
And I so callously shut you down
Selfishly claiming I was in a happy place
that I feared you’d ruin,
Did I shatter with that conversation
My last hope of your friendship, love and trust?
I’d redo it all, if I could!
I’d say, “Do whatever your hurting heart needs
To help it heal.
Turn the light on & reveal
Those ghosts that haunt you.
What will be, will be…
Just know, I’m always here for you!
Is there ANYTHING that I can do?”
That’s what you’d hear from me
If I could go back in time
and undo the hurt I caused.
But we don’t talk anymore,
So I can’t even say, “I am very deeply sorry,
Filled to exploding with regret
And remorse.”
Will I ever have another chance
To show you I can be a truly caring friend?
