Eclipse

“Eclipse”

What is in my hands, if not your voice?
We face the open wound, and we rejoice.
Let us bleed for another day beyond the end
When we’re too quiet to stand and pretend
That we can bloom outside each other’s sun.
This scar of our names…bleeding as one.

I do not regret a moment of this pain.
I do not believe it was in vain
That I whispered into the heart of the dust
Of the shadow that you cast
No more on the sun we used to share—
An eclipse that told me you were there.

You’re still there…in some way…
You’re still there…with me today…
But I cannot swim this sea between,
I cannot pierce the silence of what you mean
When you’ve seen me calling from afar
The name that is written in every scar.

But also on every flower that grows
Is the only name that my heart knows.
I cannot kiss a name. But I dream it.
In my dreams, a candle is lit
And by its flame comes into view
That shade that once walked with you.

A pantomime, tis true, but real in its embrace.
An eidolon that takes your dreamed-of place.
When I wake, it is only to dream anew
That I might reach and touch you.
A plea, a dream to find that sun that once was ours
And find you again among the newborn flowers.
