The S.S. Steward Ship
It's every man for himself, they say,
On our sinking ship of state
And god help those who get in the way
Of America's free enterprise trait...
Always sharpening its dozer blade
To plough and pave more dreamy streets
Where industry and ownership trade
Mother nature for new motorcar fleets
Parked on a patch we pretend to own,
As aristocrats on sovereign earth,
But where indebtedness is what gets grown
When only mortgages are giving birth,
Which poorly treats god given soil
Almost as bad as fracking oil.
On our sinking ship of state
And god help those who get in the way
Of America's free enterprise trait...
Always sharpening its dozer blade
To plough and pave more dreamy streets
Where industry and ownership trade
Mother nature for new motorcar fleets
Parked on a patch we pretend to own,
As aristocrats on sovereign earth,
But where indebtedness is what gets grown
When only mortgages are giving birth,
Which poorly treats god given soil
Almost as bad as fracking oil.
