She Smiles
She smiles
silently from the wall
as the movement of our bodies
fill the room.
Does she hear
the soft shuffling of sheets
and creaking of box springs
beneath the same mattress
she once shared
with her husband?
I’m afraid to speak,
certain she will hear.
Still, she smiles.

Can't help thinking she may be smiling because the bed she once shared with him is still being used by him with someone she approves of, bringing out what she enjoyed about him - somewhat like an older person who has brought up their children in a house they once lived in seeing children living there now?

It comes across as if there's some guilt there, other feelings or it may be something else.

Love your insights. Actually, I think there was some sense of guilt mixed with gratitude that she was willing to share what she'd had while alive. Now that I've moved on to another love, she may be smiling at another woman.
