Cliff Diving
She's singing right to me
about love, hard places
"And if I have to choose
my heart or you"
I'm pinned to the spot
by the impossibility
of this separation
The finest surgical blade
couldn't remove you
from that part of me
composed of cells
tattooed with your name
sending you through my veins
There's nothing left
but to lose
I surrendered self-preservation
with a simple shattering
realization
that we had become us
and the depth
of that plunge
I'd make that jump again

Thank you for the lovely compliment and list add. My understanding, such as it is, feels pretty hard won, and if my translation of that resonates with other people, I feel like I've done something good with it, so I very much appreciate your comment. :-)

Dear PS,
I really enjoyed this piece. For me,
“I surrendered self-preservation” was the touchstone of the piece. As I read that I realized how much I’d have to take down of myself to realize how different life would be without that tattooed name running through my veins. Very thoughtful write, great writing. H🌷

You're getting very good at finding the heart of the matter in my writing :-) It's the "you can't win if you don't play" philosophy of love. You have to give up emotional self-preservation, allow the possibility of devastation, to sink into the big love. And, you can have more than one tattooed name through the course of a life, but you can never remove them.
Anyway, before I ramble further, I'm gonna stop and say thank you so much, as always, for sharing your thoughts, and the honor of your reading list.

I had a rhythmic hang up with places and place so close together, small critique but just something I noticed

I see what you mean there. Thanks for the catch. After much consideration, I've changed it to "pinned to the spot" which I think works well sound wise. Maybe it'll help with your hang up :-)

Your talents are so vast and plentiful, PS.
I know that when I'm compelled to read an Author's poems several times, sitting with the wonderful ache, being uplifted by joy or comforted by feeling less alone due to a shared sense of kinship— whatever it might be that hits a nerve, that that particular poet has a uniqueness and rare quality of writing that totally excites... it's like finding a needle in the haystack, type of excitement.. which I deeply value and find enormous pleasure in revisiting time and again...
Love the intensity of commitment and bold love.... Man, it seers and takes hold... the way you pen it...
The sheer abandon and commitment... it's just gorgeous.
Thank you-🙏
There are so many of your other recent poems that I hope to comment on.... I just didn't want to inundate... ha!

I hardly know what to say, honestly. It's a wonderful thing to hear, that something I've written has touched you to such a degree. I totally understand it, because I've felt that kind of excitement. It's just a shock... a very nice one... to have this kind of compliment given to me. Thank you doesn't quite seem to cover it. Thus an explanation. :-)
Your comment means so much to me, honestly. To have someone understand, feel understood, find something bigger than just me and my thoughts or feelings in something I've written is so special. There is no greater compliment. You are very sweet to share all of that with me. Many, many thanks :-)

Dang, I would drive you where ever you wanted to go, you just chill and write stuff. Hand me the results when we get to the destination. I don't care how much gas costs, it's worth it!
Your poetry is worth my sight-seeing journey.

Hehe... thank you so much! I don't write while in the car very often, but when inspiration strikes, you've got to jot it down. More often than not, I come home with some notes or phrases to work with. This one just wouldn't be left undone. Really appreciate the compliments :-)
