We know so much about cancer (or you name it), how come we know nothing about blushing?

een rotte eigenschap is
terwijl ik vind het wel leuk hoor
heel leuk zelfs, niks mee mis
En omdat het ook kan volgen op
een complimentje - ook nog gemeend
je zou d'r z'wat katten
zodat ze niet gelijk versteent
Onderzoek HIV en kanker
blozen onderzoeken we niet
gelukkig voor mij kun je zeggen

Oh for many people blushing
is an annoying feature
while I admit I likei t though
very nice, Ginger! Lovely creature
Also if I compliment her
sincere, yes, I’m that kind of guy
I almost say: just joking
to avoid her to petrify
We research HIV and Cancer
blushing? The wrong end of the stick
yes, you might say good for me
too bad for a ginger chick

(freckles, freckles, freckles everywhere)
it slowly conquers territory
bewitched I can’t help but stare

So i give her a consolatory hug
no matter what, she hides her face
untill the worst is over

Hi Gus I'm Daniel it's nice to check out your writing and welcome to the site if you've recently joined. I've been here several years, but been away a while. It is interesting to contemplate the meanings of the images and questions posed here. There is something intimate and romantic about the way it unfolds, and I wonder if the mentions of HIV and cancer are perhaps laments from personal association and loss, reminiscing on someone beloved that has passed on. Also it makes me think about the great deficit of compassion and communication in our society, that has surely given rise to so many of it's ills.

Hope this finds you well.
It’s a very rare thing if my lyrics are autobiographical. There is an I, who isn’t me and there is Ginger. A very dear friend of mine but not my wife, lover etc.
It’s an observation (as you rightly guessed) that the race for profitable patentable cures leads to lack of sharing of knowledge. Plus we all know that a normal headache will be gone tomorrow, even without pills.
The budgets allotted to HIV were enormous. With exults that are not too terrific.
Same for cancer research. I’ve got a very good friend at the top of that moloch in NL. They are doing fantastic work. But even she (the friend) admits that the money could be more effectively spent.
So, let’s check what people need instead of checking what coughs up the most if the patent is granted.
I’ve tried to make a relatively light song about the subject.
Please remember that all the tracks were improvised and recorded in one take.

I hear you and thank you for giving me insight into your process. I tend to write in reflection of events that are long past, always in the autobiographical, so of course my interpretive lens is going to be colored by mine own approach to artistry. It's good to connect with you Gus.
