Interesting I wonder what he would think about how much they get away with charging now. He'd probably die of shock. No pun intended. 😊

My brother in England says his electricity bill has doubled. My brother-in-law in Holland says electricity bills have trebbled. Mine in Portugal remains the same ... so far. Portugal has in vested hugely in solar and wind power, though whether it gets 'sold abroad' like a cash-crop in the future ... who knows?

Yes, the hikes in everything we need to survive is out of control. Just ten years ago my electric bill was always $50-60 a month. Now it is close to $200 a month or more. You are fortunate to be in a place that understands the benefits of going green. Over here they want to go backwards instead of forward to cleaner living. We are pretty much doomed at this point.

Amazing. No crystal ball to see what happened a while back in Texas. And far away from Texas. electricty in Germany costs a mint. For example, only the well-off have washing machines in their home.

I'm the dish-washer in our house ... but we have a clothes-washing machine. My in-laws in Germany seem to be taking the price-hikes on the chin ... and are mumbling about 'profiteering' - and it's not all Putin's fault, something else is going on.

Germany's Achille Heel. Look at the way Hitler went for the Russisn oil. PS: The frist Green party was elected because they wanted no nuclear reactor. And now some people there don't want these huge wind machines....Germany has very little of these energies.

Dear J,
Yes, Ive heard a similar tune with every interstate highway toll I paid to travel as well. In the 60s Ten years of your toll money would pay for the convenience. Ha! I think we all may have been had. I think this is a very clever write on a subject that is getting way out of hand. H🌷

Thanks for commenting H. Toll-roads in Portugal are high but not as bad as France. Spain has virtually no toll roads and one can travel across the country 'for free' -- that is if you can afford fuel at 2.20+ per litre (= $8.69+/U.S gallon) ... I had fun working that out. :))

It reminded me of Tesla and how he wanted to make electricity free. Then capitalism stepped in. Now in the U.S. we're paying high prices.
Go figure.
Thought provoking spill sir.

Thank you Wally. If the surge in prices for just about everything were truly linked to the supply-chain (argued as being the fault of Covid and the Ukraine war), then of course no companies would be making super-profits; they'd just be absorbing upstream costs and passing only that fair proportion onto the customer. But Capitalism and profiteering have a long history ...
