of lawyers, computer techs & doctors
using my book
as a cap brim
shielding sharp prisms
of glass reflection
watering eyes
as ducks glide
across the dam
grass blades jump to tickle
the sides of my hands
which pillar the worn body
to the soft lawn
african monologues
perform through
morning mist
settling into choruses
a gecko swiftly shuttles
-taxi through
the traffic
of ants
wearing dust roads thin;
on their way
to the office
generating saved lunches
for the queen

Ahaha, you added it! 😊
I forgot to comment on the actual poem. But it was very easy to read because I can hear in my mind how you talk. It sounds better with the nuances in my head, heh.
I enjoyed this piece. It’s a bit of the glorious everyday and I can totally get behind that.
I’m wondering about that one really long line just visually… reckon it can be split across 2 lines… possibly after ‘prisms’? Might just be me being a perfectionist, like.
Thank you for sharing this one. It’s a joy :)

Of course I bloody added it. Your voice was internally reading the words in my ears as they landed. (Thanks for that.)
Glad you popped back in.
I played with that longer line and decided to agree with you so I made it 2.
Thank you so much for putting voice to it. It's stunning.
Thanx for a million things.

Hello
Thank you for popping in and leaving a meow on the page.
Yeah the "queen" reference is definitely ambiguous metaphoric foolery... ants collect bits of stuff for the queen ant... just as lawyers, doctors, & computer techs do.
That said my poetry is largely made up of descriptions of the imagery of vissions I have, and this is indeed the third queen reference vission poem. So judging by that I'd say yours, missy's & Casted's queen is probably going to need some extra care between our winter & summer... so for you looking around July into September. So she's likely having a braai for lunch, today.
Anyhow thanks for your words.
Good to see you here.
Blue Skies to you
Al
P.S. please send our sun back, this cold is awful.

I'm so glad you like it. Yeah I have to admit that Missy is an incredibly talented human being. An absolute pleasure to collaborate with and of course garner inspo and a bit of direction from ;)

Borax and sugar solution is extremely efficient if you wish to destroy worker ants and the larvae in the nest who are both liquid feeders. But to ensure the nest dies, the queen, who eats only solid food, must be tempted with a dainty morsel. A few breadcrumbs into the mix ensures she will receive a death sandwich.

Hey kitty kitty
Thank you for that extremely sound and rather valid advice. I am most grateful. I'll put your suggestions to the test over the weekend and let you know the results.
Do you have any similar recommendations for the red ones with those big military heads? They have infiltrated my bed and I'm scared as hell. What if they nibble too much?
Thanks for popping in miss kitty, Blue Skies at you!

Ah, you mean the Russians.
I'm afraid they are more difficult to eradicate.
I fear you may have to nuke the compound.
In the interim a sprig of mint under your pillow may suffice.
They cannot abide the smell.

What strikes me immediately is these soulful nuances that an artist holds in awareness like colors on a palette, such as the knowing that each story starts and ends in a place of no beginnings or endings, so we just pick up from a point, breathe life through our hands and eyes and build that bridge that crosses between our perspectives. Your details hold an intimate subtlety that is artful and lovely, each facet like a totem god whose avatar holds depths of time and meaning below it's surface features. It was a beautiful reading as well. Lovely work Al.

"grass blades jump to tickle
the sides of my hands
which pillar the worn body
to the soft lawn"
I feel like the poem should start here honestly. The first verse is good, and might be a good poem in and of itself, but it's more a slightly jarring collection of disparate imagery, without the same narrative flow as the rest of the piece.
Regardless, the poem makes warm and lovely music. It's gentle and kind and natural, like a lot of your best work.

Hi Al, You and Missy (and inspiration from Casted_Runes) really came together to make something wonderful. I adore the imagery you have created, it really made me smile; using so many facets of nature to illustrate so many elements of modern society. It's really lovely and the reading is awesome. :)

I know I'm a little late to the read on this but I found this to be wonderful, metaphorically power and insightful. Missy's voice adds something very nice to it.
Superb work.
