using my book
as a cap brim
shielding sharp prisms
of glass reflection
watering eyes
as ducks glide
across the dam

grass blades jump to tickle
the sides of my hands
which pillar the worn body
to the soft lawn

african monologues
perform through
morning mist
settling into choruses

a gecko swiftly shuttles
-taxi through
the traffic
of ants
wearing dust roads thin;
on their way
to the office
generating saved lunches
for the queen
