Darkness Falls
Darkness falls
Nothing but cold, still air.
Searching for companionship, for warmth-
but all is lost.
Each glance a blade, each passerby a poison.
The suffocating black embraces me
Constricting. Gripping. Tighter! Tighter!
Breathless. Floating in a sea of darkness.
A faded light shines in the distance like that of the last dying embers of a once raging fire.
I swim toward it, struggling against the currents and the waves
but the grasping hands grip tighter and tighter still.
The light drifts farther and farther away. It is lost.
I am lost.
Darkness falls again and I am silent.
