FALL AWAY

I felt my loneliness fall away
when I slept with you the other day,
in your arms, relaxing untroubled
in your bed (occupancy doubled)
as on your chest I rested an ear:
I sensed "perfect love casting out fear",
drawn closer than I had ever been
to anyone since I was a teen.
Your heart beat gently and so warmly,
moved fast as I welcomed you in me.

A burden was laid down deep inside,
replaced by the glow, as from fireside,,
that rose so warmly in place of this.
My own heart quickened at your head kiss,
so repeated as to chase away
any lurking worries from the day.
Gradually I reawakened:
one hour on, our bed was shakened
as I worked my gratitude on you
so surely we became one from two.

Author's Note
Inspired by Charles Poindexter's poem, brought up on Facebook by Kate Adams (Seeking Kate):

She held
her ear:
into the calm
of his heartbeat
and in a matter of seconds:
fell easily in love
with the way
her loneliness fell
softly and suddenly,
asleep,
in his chest.
