En Dolor

“En Dolor”

You came to see what you rejected.
Was I everything you expected?
Did you see strength in weakness, or—
Something you had never seen before?

While we craft such stars of shadows:
The touch you grant; the kiss you oppose.
It’s the same dream: that of my leave-taking,
Though I find you have gone upon waking.

Though you leave, we never part ways.
Your form is removed, but something of you stays:
It looks like roses in my eyes, filled with sorrow
To see you linger after you go.

Night followed night…if only there was no day.
If only our stars held eternal sway.
They I would gather to place in your tears,
Until all the nighted Heaven disappears

Until all of Heaven is in your eyes,
As it long has been beneath these skies
Enclosed in you as far as I could see
Just as your roses bloom inside me.

How remote the distance between dreams
And the light each stargaze redeems.
I see the lone dark of tomorrow
Without you, and the days that will follow

Until we meet again, surcease of grief,
Though our time shall be brief.
And when you leave, we will not part,
For you shall remain inside my heart.
