The Half Life of Neon

Neon lights in the night
Visible from indivisible
Distances across expanses
Where the disheveled

Have midnight hours
To tower over lost kingdoms
Of tumbling shadows
And tongues tasting the air

Where there is something
Electric eclectic
Strung together by a common
Thread of wonder

And excitement
With each elephant ear
And corn dog
Wafting across the clock like neon lit smog

As car lights travel
Through the night
Paced in satiation
In this sight

Of

Commonality

&

Communality

The town I live in has a large annual
festival called:

Tulip Time...

There is a large throng of international
traffic...

There are food stands set up all over the city...

And a carnival like atmosphere...

As a youth we had a boxing club
and would load tulip pots on floats for the parades...

We would pick them up at a freezer,
load them on pickup trucks...  Then the floats

I haven't been around for a while...

But the festivities seemed to have grown...

(although it was always the largest festival of its kind...)

I love the story of tulip mania and the idea of bubbles...

Fields of tulips have deep philosophical
& poetical implications to me...

I was always captivated by the folks who worked
the food stands...

How they had a backstage pass (like us loading the floats)
and traveled like gypsies...

There are pics of the festival here:
