An Electric Ode To Kahn
"Lightning light me up, illuminate like fireflies
Medusa magic cast my dreams in stone" Kahn Morbee
ANC fairytales,
are not the same as the memory of The Roxy
-that midnight you taught men to wear eye-liner
just, one of many times you upped the game
"we promised our parents, we were just having fun!"
in front of a piano, choosing ivory, smiling at it's name
thinking of stardust galaxies and the road to china
knowing the gospel, "that goodbyes are never easy"
will live on each stone tarred to the journey's road
because "that's life" and I'm colorful
You are my antidote as beautiful as there comes a man,
I remain a loyal fan of your story, of your life design
so I tell myself you're "saving the best bit for tomorrow"
I'm starring at the mountain, calling the devil I know
I'm only human, your words remain
a white blood cell pumping me alive
while you silently read mine
converting wine
"what the hell were we thinking, were we thinking at all
what the hell did we believe we'd achieve
stood there with our hearts exposed

The band formed in Johannesburg in the summer of 1998. Kahn Morbee failed to start a band in high school, explaining that "no one ever gave me a chance", so he decided to enroll at the University of Johannesburg. Shortly after, he was introduced to Neil Pauw, who had attended the same high school in Roodepoort. On hearing Morbee's original songs, Neil realized they shared a music vision and they decided to start a band. At university Kahn met Paul Hodgson, after they were removed from the campus library for playing guitar inside. The next day Kahn asked Paul to join the band. At the time, Paul's younger brother, Glen Hodgson was still in high school, but asked him to join as a bassist.

The Parlotones are one of the things that I am grateful to you for, having cheekily seen them live twice now when they came to the U.K. Funnily enough I was listening to China when I began reading this poem.
Save your best bits for tomorrow is a bit of an anthem for me. Heat Of The Moment, and Sleepwalker (the something old new, something new, something borrowed, something blue version) is also up there.
What I do enjoy about the band is that the lyrics are a little bit “out there” in places, but always manage to communicate a huge amount of heart. I dunno, they just fill me full of good stuff.
Please don’t kill me that I’ve hugged the dude… he’s fkn short in real life. Either that or I’m just like Amazonian, or some shit… 🤣
Can I also say what was unique about them is how fkn humble they actually were as a band. Had no problems what so ever coming out before and after to talk to people in the crowd. I guess the venue was pretty tiny here compared to there so they were able too. 😂

China is a wonderful album!
The boys are famous internationally for the music, in South Africa they are famous for being decent, kind, polite, generous human beings with an unrelenting passion for professionalism. they are "übuntu" in the modern world. perfect ambassadors. it is unheard of, to hear a single negative story about them. the music for us is a wonderful cherry on the top!
I have a signed copy of Radio Controlled Robot. (From the days back when we bought CD's at concerts) Oh I could go on forever but...
-In lockdown, the skyroom concert, (on top of a building overlooking joburg) was my youtube go to when I needed settling.
-I rocked Kayla & Jess asleep after nappy changes and bottles, in the early hours to stardust galaxies.
-A highlight in my current relationship, was when Alison arranged surprise tickets to a quiet unplugged acoustic concert and I left with a Tee Shirt that I've worn to shreds. As far as I am concerned if they claimed to sing the soundtrack of my life, I would completely agree!
They are my poetic muse. They are my good space. They are inspiration.
Yeah.. Kahn and I do see eye to eye (in the height department) lol.
That album you listening to has a track called, "For Now"...
That's well worth saying.
When you have Nikki Du Plessis naked with gills in your Antidote music video I reckon about then you fucking made it, mate ;)
