Image for the poem the seventies

the seventies

I grew up in the seventies
it was disco and sex
I dream of New York and culture
I loved the Italian men
leisure suits and power

I grew up in a middle class white bread family in California
the city life called to me
I longed to be a mob bosses wife
safe behind a fence in a mansion somewhere
with a Robert DeNiro style husband

what the hell it was the God Father and Al Pacino
and the Teflon boss Gambino on the TV
I hungered inside me I growl, seeking power
I knew I was out of control I longed for someone to tame me

mamma mia but those men are hot
Saturday Night Fever and John Travolta
Cadillac's and the seventies
my childhood lost I never made it to New York
