There are no Stars

“There are no Stars”

I am not the kiss that could set you free…
More the symptom of the fever I feel.
Of all the blooms that one might steal,
Alas! I am not the roses to be.

Pieces of my sight remain imbedded in your eyes:
You see my view, though time renders you blind
And the thorns that burden the corners of my mind
Are the echoes of our silent goodbyes.

You see as though through my undying dreams,
In them, you sadly feel me accursedly choose
The hope alas! that I am doomed to lose.
And you alone know what this vision means.

Each hour is empty and there are no stars
In that place where I find you just out of my grasp.
It seems a moment as though our hands will clasp
And the sky will blossom as though with flowers

But the waters stand between you and me.
My heart cannot sail without you—
And this dream will not come true
While you are beyond that terrible sea.

And yet you stood here by my side
One spring evening when the stars were hidden;
A night when there was no Earth or Heaven
There was only us, and the light that had died.

But still I saw pieces of me inside of your skin,
As you saw yourself in what remains of my heart.
Then our paths were severed, I watched you depart
As though your touch never had been.

A dead hand, cold, among whispers in the shadows,
Fell on my shoulder, and sleep befell my soul.
But for a moment, I felt as though I was whole,
My dream following your heartbeat wherever it goes.
