Day On The Bay With Father - The Boat
Getting up with the Sun
going Sailing with dad
the one avocation
for which he has passion
sneaking out of our cul de sac
sailboat in tow
a 19 foot O’Day Daysailer
big enough to have a cabin
small enough for a centerboard
For if much bigger
It would have fixed keel
That we couldn’t
transport with trailer
The flagship
In our family fleet
with only one other
vessel a member
seven foot, eleven inch,
bathtub-like dinghy
mysteriously named an El Toro
with mast, sail, centerboard rudder
bearing no resemblance
to it’s macho, sharp-horned
eponymous brother

Sailing with dad is one of my favourite memories too. 😊 Ours was a J-24, and he really liked to race. Stressful, intense awesomeness!

How cool that you sailed with your Dad. Obviously more successfully than I. The J-24 looks fun. So it looks similar to the O'day Daysailer except it has a keel. Where would you race? Did you win races. What an awesome bonding experience. Was your Dad a strict Captain? I would actually like to try sailing again🥰
