release reminder
The drive here
and the café smell
and the cute guy chowing down at the drink pickup
got me thinking
we grab gazes for a second
he has a sharp nose
and wise bug-eyes
are you going in or just getting out?
Me
I’m going in
I resent the term
before-times
There’s no such thing
I’m not worried about how the night was
before the party died
and I refuse to fret
about the afterparty either
when to arrive and what to bring
No,
I have released all resistance
I drove to New Orleans
without forgetting to breathe
I unlocked my jaw
with just a jiggle
No lockpick necessary
My breath sails me
into each see-through minute
It all ebbs and flows
and ebbs constantly
and that’s the only constant
I have released all resistance
Imma do my damn thing
and stop begging my life for change
I’m gonna build my sand castle
whether the tide is in or not
I will breathe
through Saturday afternoon,
all the way to the end of the world.
