Candace Queen a light in a dark world

oppression is real
you can feel the weight of it on your soul
some bear the pain of this day and out
they walk on like soldiers
fighting a war most people don't see

poverty teaches you how to be grateful
for the most basic things
like a bed to sleep in
or food to eat
warm clothes

some go into battle without any of these things
these warriors navigate the world fiercely
that their souls can war with these demons
is nothing short of amazing to me

I was in the city only three days
a concrete hell slapped me in the face the first day
demons circle about shortly after
I felt the desolation of the place

I look around me in astonishment
there were happy reminders children live here
rainbows in chalk on the sidewalk
these are the warriors I speak of
they are in the thick of chaos yet they smile in appreciation

my daughter keeps her house safe in the midst of danger
she goes on everyday carrying so much on her shoulders
a beauty Queen of the world if ever there was one

Author's Note
I left my house in the country for three days and stayed with my daughter for a bit she's lives in a dangerous city...these were my observations while there... I'm so proud of her... if I could move her I would but she doesn't want to leave the city...she is a warrior... she keeps her ship afloat month after month with all this going on around her she is a light in a dark place...
