Brain Weather
There are meteorological systems within my head
which I am powerless to change
Some days bring bright clear sunshine
comfortable temperatures
where clarity is the name of the game
Actions and ideas can be seen
clinging to each blade of grass
like dewdrops of possibility
Other days, a storm of sleet and rain
pummels my brain
drowning out all reasonable thoughts
leaving them cold
angry and gasping
dripping with fatigue
Oh, those glorious intense days
when a windstorm of manic energy
pushes against my back
full of courage and creative drive
I’m a forest fire, devouring barriers
and burning doubts to ash –
but blind to all sensible limits
And some days are just…
Gray
no rain, no sun, no wind
no joy, no sadness
just a flat cloudy brain
useful only for the most basic functions
like breathing
There’s no forecast for this brain weather
I must remember to roll with it
as it passes me by
from day to day
