Flames
I couldn’t have known
the flames of her
addictions
would overtake her
that very night.
She was so beautiful.
I suspect now that
she knew her time
was ending. She wanted
to feel love from another.
She died with my desires still on her lips
unable to dampen the flames that consumed her.

Yes. That can be a strong addiction. So many of us have addictions hovering just beneath the surface.
