if inspiration
takes a break
and words
don't come
in time
remember
what you read here now --
when all else fails,
just rhyme

when genius
works of poets
only make you
feel inept
and you wonder
what on earth
compelled you
to accept
the idea of a
poem a day
when one
a month
seems fair
the very words
i'm writing now
will shield you
from despair

when page is blank
and brain is mute
and tiger 's got
your tongue,
you're weary
and you're late for work
and all your songs
are sung,
the well is dry
the crop has failed
your free verse
is absurd
and all you need
to set you free
is fifty unique words

worry not
for metaphor
or simile
sublime
when inspiration's
on the wane
and all else fails,
just rhyme
