Threads

It started with tea drinking—
mugs containing hugs
gave warmth within
while I held her.
Baby steps.

Rubik's cubing
followed s l o w l y  by art,
cautious but crucial
first signs of recovery.

Slow walks outside,
soaking up summer sun
strengthened body
and bathed spirit.

Plenty of knocks
awaited us, and
a few instances of
f
a
l
l
i
n
g
all the way back.

Still, two years on,
real life,
real experiences,
friends, the outdoors,
creativity—  
music, drawing, cooking—
are threads
which connect her to life.

Our hope?
That with time
they will grow ever stronger.
