if we don’t like
our role
we can change

be meaner or
sweeter
 
smarter or
commoner

just change outfits
push out your chest

or walk with a limp

learn some jargon (do a google)

endear
enrage
encumber

it all works

creating a tapestry
to indicate
who we are

but there is a
core
that carries on

the being
that is
self

its easy
until you get caught

when others begin to
depend on you for

their livelihood
their self-worth
their identity

then it its time to
move on

it’s all you

many different people
many different roles

love hate indifference

all part of you

the easy part is
the walking away

remove a mask
put on another

more painful
for those left behind

who thought
they knew you

at least have
the decency

to say goodby
