Three Bells in the Night

The striking of three bells in the morning signals an awakening.
It's soo quiet. It's too quiet.
The kind of quiet that feels like you're being watched.
From the other side of the veil they watch us.
From our side the moments slow.
Time stands still during this so called witching hour.
Why is it we wake in the depths of the darkness to sense our fear? What do you do when you're too scared to even breathe underneath the covers? Your heart is pounding and you don't dare move.
You hear every creaking noise of the expansion and contraction in the house.
Finally you get up enough nerve to scratch your nose. You finally breathe freely and begin to relax. Then roll over to hopefully fall asleep.
