“Tears in the Wind”

If one came home, one has only to open the door
Between the clouds of Heaven, and the distant shore.
We will meet again by the skies we find
With our tears facing into the wind,
And in the sun that sinks into the rain,
To say goodbye for the first time again.

One from seas that endlessly outspread,
And one for whom my tears endlessly are shed.
One with soul too pure to touch with sin
And one who knows the blasphemy of my skin.

My mind knows, but my heart is a fool
Longing for one whose love is cruel
While, back across the sea, the aches will descend
On one who was my protector, and my friend

Until the summertime of their years
When the sun has dried their tears.
And what river shall bear me when I have gone,
Waiting for the last star to fall upon the final dawn
To see one who would return but who would not wait
Until I find the hour has grown late
And upon that distant shore
There is one who loves me no more?


And I would wait until the final star falls on the last sunrise
When all the world around us falters and dies
For another glance of my soul within your eyes.
But what would you see if you looked into me?
How would I know if the time and distance that makes one fond
Is not but a dream like unto the dream that was our bond?

And you, who join me from oceans away,
What words of sorrow do the angels say?
From these lands, once you fled
And I remember, once you said
Amid my tears, “This is not goodbye.”
And I watched you fade into the distant sky.
Now, you come to say a new farewell
As our hearts in slumber swell.
How do I know the distance and time that makes one fond
Is not but a dream of the dream of our bond?
