Not So Secret Love.....

Just another Sunday
my focus on the word being read

my music and your voice shifting atmospheres until
the last “Amen” has been said

…...and the congregation begins to disperse

and the band gathers for one last S.H.E.D.
A soulful jam session, just another opportunity
for the fellas to rehearse

 and then we're done

Alone in the sanctuary.  Just me.......

….but I know I'm not the only one,
not the lonely one because
I feel you
I feel your peculiar sense of deja vu

each and every Sabbath
I know that I can count on you
your spirit comes to me....

with words that encourage
as you can say, “that's just my way”
but deep down in my heart,
you've been my shining star right from the start

not “his” but mine.....something perhaps we both know
obligations of a Christian Heart,
it's all part of the show

until you touch me
through your words
or your fingers gentle caress
you could have left for home
long ago.....but you waited for me
keeping it close to the vest

…..something made you stay around
the need of each others company,
your voice, the familiarity of the sound,
an emotional revitalization for the coming week
sometimes, we just don't see the need for each other's love
(what in the world could we ever be thinking of?) the words we speak

….in the fleeting moments I took you into my arms
I held you close, feeling safe from all alarm
In the sanctuary
sheltered by another man's possession
I am standing on the verge of confessing

and feeling no shame nor fear in asking......”to hold you tight”
in the light of a
      “not so secret Love”
