Eye to Eye

All of the pretty people at the street festival
Smiling down their noses at the girls serving food and beer
Everyone tries to get along even though there's tension in the air
Mixing up the classes that aren't supposed to exist up here
It's not heaven round here even though we thought we'd try.
And we can't look each other in the eyes.
If I had to label myself I'd say I'm part of the downtrodden
Never really had too much at all
Hating on the rich just because I never made the breaks for myself
And the rich man sees me as someone to scorn
We just can't look each other in the eyes
When I was young I said I'd see everything in the world
But it seems the whole damn world has passed me by
Some folks stay in constant motion but I just sit here quietly
And there is no chance that we'll see eye to eye
Different types from different worlds
Insoluble but all mixed up
Trying hard to find our way
We each find trouble and pain
And it's only with tear stained eyes that we can see each other truthfully at all
