MY SEARCH FOR HAPPINESS IS OVER

INSIDE

I recently saw a
van with this painted
on the back:
"In Search of Happiness."
I was setback for a moment
because I hadn't seen
those words in years,
at least not on a vehicle.
I've seen it in the desperate
eyes of riders on barstools;
hopeful buyers of lotto tickets;
in courtrooms where two
words "Divorce Granted"
promises a new road to
happiness as the old
road of unhappiness is
hopefully closed.
YES,
I too use to look for
happiness somewhere out there.
Then in recent years as
I have worked with, make
friends with, relived past
experiences with prisoners
of war, I have finally concluded that
happiness is an inside reality
not depending on the weather,
compliments or promotions.
I travel the backroads of
isolated villages and see
the joy and happiness of those
I deem to be pitiful...when they
ought to feel sorry for me.
YES,
my search for happiness is
the great discovery, belief,
and reality that LIVING
IS AN INSIDES JOB.
"Two men look through
prison bars, one sees mud
and the other sees stars."
My search is over!!
I choose to see the stars;
meet me at the Kissing
Place and we'll share our
great discovery.
