Edge of Forever

seagulls gliding through the atmosphere
under a cloudless sky
doves coo-cooing somewhere very near
as time keeps slipping by

moments pass becoming memories
disappearing fast
the future beckons 'come here, come here please
the present will not last'

what was has gone and it will never be
returning here again
what is to come is a mystery
right now we're all the same

entwined in something quite invisible
like the air we breathe
every moment indivisible
we come, we stay, we leave

insects, microbes, personalities
do what must be done
until the moment something inside flees
once more to become

in between physicality
and what seems to be divine
a familiar new surreality
everywhere all the time
