I think it's part of our human nature to always want more, more, more... be it the good things or the so-called bad for us, things.
There's an art in finding moderation, which is how I believe (just what I've discovered works for me) you can be at your happiest. It's definitely not easy but worth it, especially as you age....

From personal experience, he doesn't stay in the cave very long. Balance and self-control help block the door just a little longer.
