Desert Illusions

Never trust your eyes in the desert
One drop of water equals a thousand dreams
Grand illusions of oases
Masquerading as familiar faces and places

The darkness that we are is all self contained
Just looking into the mirror and repeating our name
I know that I’m a healer and not the fucking cause
I think of myself as the future haha just as what was

I share a shadow with a Saguaro
Scorpions and Gila monsters lie in our shade and snore
In and out of our mind they crawl and climb
Over the thorns of our existence and the slime of our mind

This part of Hell is hard by design
Hahaha water isn’t something that we try to find
Rattlers are so evil that they move with a sidewind
The monsoon returns with its own sense of time

We are survivors adapted to the illusions brought forth
Our love is symbiotic, our relationship is out of necessity of course
Our dwellers rely upon us, how could you fear your own God
Our worshipers are immeasurable, the entire desert is our yard

Have you ever seen a bobcat perched atop or lying in a Saguaro’s arms
Totally unafraid of being pricked, enjoying the benefits of a desert bond
Kitten’s crawling out at the base, giving life their very first taste
Birds of all kinds have built homes in life’s face, in the desert there is no waste

Coyotes howl as they bend their knee to thee
They consider us both their past and their destiny
The Saguaro may look dead but it will still produce life
With flowers still blooming it proves the illusions of the desert’s strife
