I Need You

Friends see you as my destruction
In their eyes I was Eden before your corruption
The Nile before you poisoned my source
I was as gentle as a breeze before you added your force

So please don’t be mad when I say that I need you
I need the illusion of you caring to see me through
Haunted nights with me waking up in fright
You’re that comforting mirage a scared child considers the light

I truly haven’t been hungry since your promises of substance
I can only measure my breaths by your distance
Please don’t get mad or think of me as strange
I’m simply a person without you that some considers derange

Why is he always talking to her as if she’s still there
Why does he sleep on her side of the bed, hugging her pillow with care
A ghost walks about his house posing as his lover
Taking on all comers, convincing him that he doesn’t need another

Please don’t get mad or demand that I actually think
Your spirit flows through me like the water I need to drink
Cascading over me at times in waterfall fashion
Why do I need you so, please forgive me for asking

My friends beg me to get over you, preaching that you’re not needed
But when I see them all happy, I know that they’re being conceited
To me you’re my mental Eden after it’s been weeded
The driving force behind my gentle breeze, keeping death defeated
