Wow, how did that happen ?
Here we are
2021
(I wish it was less crazy times .. so I could be there Celebrating all YOU are!)
which brings me back
to when we knew you were coming home for the first time
how dad leapt onto the landing
to announce excitedly we had a baby sister
you were so tiny
the baby
my last sibling
I wanted to hold you so badly
but needed the encouragement
that yes you were delicate, precious and beautiful, that red hair!
but no, I couldn't break you
I learned how to give you a bottle
change your diapers, feed you
calm you when you fussed,
things that made you laugh
were my favorite
holding you in my lap reading you stories until you couldn't keep your eyes open
dancing around the living room
combing your long hair
watching you grow and grow and grow
right over my head
but never too big for a piggy back ride
nine years between us
being your big sis was not always easy
I never realized the responsibility
would be so large
or how much I could love and want to protect someone from the smallest infraction
this gave me perspective on so many things
watching you grow from a child to a mom yourself
You being there for me during some of my toughest moments, yes we trade places every once in a while... but, that's another whole story..it is a reflection of who you are
beautiful, brave, fun, thoughtful, passionate, with laughter that fills the whole room, hold no bars, kick ass woman that you are today
(I think you are more like me than you realize, I'm just quieter about it)
I am so proud of you!
I am honored and so blessed to not only call you sister, but also my friend!
