Casual Sex

The strange mix of that
night's pleasures and intoxicants
left her in a heap outside a bedroom
door,
     startled and stunned.

Music roared,
but I remained still,
watching her from
     across the room.

She looked down to survey her nakedness
as if seeing herself for the first time. Her
solemn eyes seemed to grasp her power
at the same moment
     I was overcome with lust.

I shook inside as her face turned to me.
Her eyes sparkled with recognition, but
     we were strangers.

I stood awkwardly as if being introduced,
but there were no words
     between us.

She opened the bedroom door and I followed her
     inside.
